Lateral water hazards are ditches, lakes, ponds, etc. that run parallel to the hole, they are marked with red posts.
If your ball is in a lateral water hazard you can:
A) Play the ball from the water without touching the ground as you stand to the ball, with no penalty.
B) Play again from where you hit the ball into the water, under a penalty of one shot.
C) Drop your ball within two club lengths from the hazard on the entry point your ball had entered, no nearer the hole under a penalty of one shot.
Normal water hazards are ponds, lakes, ditches, etc. that cross the hole and are marked with yellow posts.
If your ball is in a water hazard you can:
A) Play the ball from the water without touching the ground with the club as you stand to the ball, with no penalty.
B) Play again from where you hit the ball into the water, under a penalty of one shot.
C) Go back as far as you like keeping the point where the ball entered the water between you and the hole, under a penalty of one shot.
